This week, Sugar Frosted Goodness is offering up a challenge with the chance to win a prize. The theme is Vintage Advertising Characters, and all submissions will be judged by Warren Dotz, whose favorite will be awarded a copy of his new book, Ad Boy: Vintage Advertising with Character. Here’s my first submission to the challenge.
For those who might not recall, in 1984 Wendy’s ran an ad campaign that featured Clara Peller, a tiny octogenarian who was less than satisfied with the quality of the competitor’s product. Peering into a giant hamburger bun at a comically small burger patty, she would deliver a catch phrase that became a cultural phenomenon. “Where’s the beef?”. Of all the commercials I recall since the dawn of Todd, the ones with Clara Peller stand out amongst my favorites. See it for yourself.
As a bonus, I was thrilled to find that WMFU’s Beware of the Blog is offering a free download to the Where’s The Beef song. It’s so bad, it’s good.
